A crime fiction I like. Pacing is perfect. I am now following Gregg Olsen's work and will continue to read more from him.

Synopsis: A man goes out to sea and witnesses the attack and abduction of his wife. He rows to the shore but it's too late. Detectives think he's involved (as most husbands are in this type of crime) but there was a witness who saw the wife get taken, and the husband clearly out at sea. But also, the man's account of what happened had inconsistencies. But one of the detectives knew him from childhood and can't believe he would do something such as do something bad to his wife.

SpoilerTurns out the wife had an affair with a married dude, and said dude's wife wanted revenge.

2 and a half
I don’t know if it’s the author’s intent, but I figured out what happened almost in all details pretty early which is not me. I listened to the book (finally at 2x, I was so eager to just have what I knew revealed!). I did like the way he kept revealing parts. That would have been more fun if they had been unexpected twists. I have to say I like a good plot twist—but they really aren’t fun when you saw them coming.

Usually I am a fan of this author but this book was really hard to get through… I feel like the storyline dragged on, none of the characters were likable except Lee and I’m not a fan of the misogynistic Tones that one of the character has. Made it extremely hard to get through. Especially when the character mocks the me too movement

A little predictable but still a good read. I like how the chapters were character labeled, so you could track each move and thought from person to person throughout the book.

This one I enjoyed but was able to see the plot play out halfway through. I did enjoy this read and was surprised by the twist at the end . I recommend if you enjoy drama and murder.

A twisty book full of lies and VERY unlikable, unrealistic characters. It's kind of slow to start, but once it gets going the plot is interesting enough to keep you engaged and breaking out your detective hat. I wasn't the biggest fan of the ending where they're with Lee since that kind of scene is a bit overdone in the mystery/crime genre, but it was satisfying enough.

A true 3-star-er.

This book had me going!! My first Gregg Olsen book that I’ve read, and I will be checking out more of his books.

I really enjoyed the writing style. Olsen leaves you wanting more at the end of the chapters, and then delivers the rest of that part of the story in later chapters.

I hate to leave spoilers in reviews, but this one just has me really excited.

I couldn’t decide if Adam was involved or not, and was slow to form a theory. He had said some questionable things, but i still wasn’t sure. It wasn’t until Connor said that he was certain that the fertility problem was definitely not on his end. I read that shortly before forcing myself to go to sleep that night. As I’m getting close to falling asleep, my brain kicked into gear and alarms were ringing in my head and I KNEW exactly who Aubrey’s parents were. This is when i finally had a theory, as I’m sure many others surmised as well. Wasn’t too far off!!! Can’t wait to read more Olsens!!

This one kept me guessing right till the end! I love how every character felt real - no one was perfect. Gregg Olson’s writing kept me very engaged, combine that with short chapters and I just devoured this book!

In this book, Adam’s wife - Sophie - was abducted and later found to be dead. Who did it???? I don’t think anyone was innocent while I was reading… as I kept trying to figure it out, my theories just kept changing along with it.

I’ll definitely be on the look out for more by Gregg Olson. This was my first book by him, and it was a great intro - can’t wait to read more by him!
