I loved this book SO MUCH.
It has the perfect dose of gumpy vs sunshine and yeah, I'm passionate about that so you can imagine.

I liked the story of Smith and Emilia a lot, if it is glimpsed in the previous book but their story has been incredible!!

It has many cliches that I like:

…technically i want to say this was the best one by far. but then there was a random reference/nod to Verity by Coho which…BOOOO

so i’ll just say that this one is the best in the series, but only by a little. ONTO THE NEXT BC I CANT STOP AND IVE BEEN WAAIIIIIITING FOR THE NEXT ONE

Update 2023 - Still 5+ STARS.
Is this the best hockey series out there? Hear me out! I read a lot of hockey romance and these have just hit differently. Maybe it is because I have fallen in love with the group of characters, but each book I fall a little more deeply in love and usually I am over it way before book four.
Emilia and Smith had a fling two and a half years ago. It was one weekend. Both of them were going through a heartbreak, Emilia from love and Smith from hockey. They met at Slapshots and went on to have the best weekend of their lives. No strings, nothing more.
Fast forward a few months, she's the niece of his assistant coach and works for the Comets now. She's nothing but off limits even if Smith still can't forget their time together.
Fast forward two years. The tension, the pining, it is all churning and is set to burst now that Emilia has to interview him for a player profile. They have been doing as best as they can to avoid each other until now, but this will be too much.
Smith's pining is unmatched and I honestly will give this book 5 stars on his pining alone. Smith is older and facing the real possibility of retirement too, so this all makes him extra grumpy, especially when he can't have exactly what he wants.
What I enjoyed was the fact that neither of these characters were terribly young, it made it all the more believable to me that they knew what they wanted and were willing to fight for it.

This one was my favorite of the series so far! I had thought it was Blind Pass, but I loved Smith and Emilia's story! These two were so great together. They had heat and chemistry, but also a connection I really felt! I just loved them for each other and it felt so real and genuine. I am looking forward to Miller's story!

hot

Emilia is up for a promotion at work that she has more than earned. But as a sort of test for the position, she is tasked with setting up the player profile interviews with Smith, who is notoriously private.

The problem? She’s been avoiding Smith since she started working for the Carolina Comets two and half years ago…because they had a fling before they knew who each other were. And it was never meant to be more than one night.

Secretly, neither of them has ever gotten over their weekend fling, and spending so much time together for the profile is dredging up a lot of buried feelings. The worst part? There is now a strictly no fraternisation rule within the organisation.

Can they keep it in their pants?

I loved that there was no big drama for these two. Well, once they gave into their desires.

Their relationship progressed so naturally, and they just never defined or labelled anything. It just grew in a very organic way.

Emilia had to make such an impossible decision and I totally understand why she chose what she did. But perhaps an honest conversation between them could have saved some heartache?

Miller was hilarious as always and I have such a soft spot for him. I believe his book might be next!
