I’m probably being extra harsh on this book because people are so obsessed with it. I was really disappointed. There was some really interesting writing and emotion, but the plot was excruciating for me. 

It dragged on, and I had so much trouble making myself pick this book up each time. It took me months to finish and sent me into a pretty heavy reading slump. I won’t be continuing the series. 

Happy for everyone who loves it, though.

I like the concept, but this was so irritating to read. Every sentence seem to have a different flow than the one before, and reading a page felt like trudging through knee-high sand. Should have gone through another round of editing.
Apart from that, the story is very well written and fun. The characters, while a little unbelievable motivationally, got to do some very interesting things I’ve never seen before in a novel. If I was only reviewing the story, I’d give it 5 stars.
Not trash, just not easy to read.

my first dark academia 

ooomfff sexy powerful emotionally unstable characters??? sign me up 

this book is thicccc but i finished it in one day cuz the plot is just too good, really hoping there is sth going on between libby and nico bc the chemistry between them is just too good to go to waste

oh and i also didn’t really know what was going on with gideon lmaooo but from the synopsis of book 2 it seems that he’ll be playing a bigger role? but my feelings towards him are undetermined and i’m not sure why nico goes through such lengths for him…? 

this is also my first time reading about a threesome! lol

also tristan really grew on me… damn

all in all, an alluring read

I picked this up because the cover looked interesting, and I'm a sucker for anything having to do with the Library of Alexandria, but god, this book was so good. The characters were all so interesting, and I loved and hated them in equal measures. Magical Secret Societies are my bread and butter, and this did not disappoint. At every moment, I was trying to guess what would happen next, and at no point did I really have any idea. I absolutely loved this book, and I can't wait to read the next one.
