Original review at Much Loved Books

Magic Graves is a book written by Ilona Andrews, author of Kate Daniels|on the edge, and Frost author of night huntress.
I have read most of Jeaniene's night huntress books, and all of Ilona's Kate Daniels books. When the option came up form Ilona Andrews blog to get the chance to review Magic Graves I jumped at the chance.

Jeaniene Frost
One For The Money
I knew starting One For The Money that it would take place after where I stopped reading the previous books, but surprisingly there was only one spoiler so I think I came out relatively unscathed.
After finishing One For The Money I really need to go back and start from the beginning of the Night Huntress series. I miss the wit and humour of Cat and Bones and I really love Bones and the things he comes out with.
One For The Money is as good as I remember the series to be and I really can't remember why I didn't read the latest book.
In One For The Money, Cat and Bones are hired to protect a human from being killed by supernaturals but after having heard nothing for a week they take matters into their own hands in an attempt to draw out the enemy, lots of fighting ensues and......, you will have to buy your own copy to find out what happens.
My favourite quote has to be said by Tammy to Cat "So you're married to Bones, huh? How'd you manage to snag him? You know, with your red hair and white skin, you look like a big candy cane."

Once Burned
Again why have I done this to myself. Once Burned is released next year and I really can't wait to get a hold of it. The little teaser that I read makes me want this book in my collection.

Home For The Holidays
I loved this small excerpt from The Bite Before Christmas Anthology. We get to meet regular characters to the series and also a new face who has reason to find Cat and Bones. The Bite Before Christmas will be added on my "to buy" list.

Ilona Andrews
A Questionable Client
Kate accepts a job to be bodyguard for Saiman. Kate hates bodyguard detail, but at 3 grand a night she would be insane to pass on it. When she gets to his apartment he is chained to a bed and all he tells her is that someone is after him, but in Kate's words "You're a target of magical kamikaze fanatics".
A Questionable Client introduces us to how Kate met Siaman, and why he persists in changing himself to try to get Kate to sleep with him, it also explains why she gets a very big discount from any problems he assists her with.
I absolutely love Kate, she is a kick-ass, sword-carrying heroine, who also makes mistakes and wrong judgements in character like everyone else, she doesn't pretend to be what she isn't, but most of all I love how she thinks and speaks her mind, you never know what she will say next and THAT is what I love.
A Questionable Client was as good as all the books in Kate Daniels series. Ilona Andrews really knows how to keep her readers interested in the story and certainly knows how to write a great book.

Fate's Edge
I want to say straight away that I have not yet had the chance to read any books from The Edge Series, after reading this sneak peak of Fates Edges, book 3 in the Edge series I NEED to get hold of the previous books.
The Edge is set in a different world to the Kate Daniels series but again Ilona out does herself with her writing style. From reading the first chapter I was hooked straight away and I will soon be purchasing the rest of The Edges books and make a start on catching up.

Magic Grieves
(*title is just temporary and may change, so too may content I am talking about*)
WARNING-Do not drink while reading this novella, there is a possible chance of causing harm to book/e-reader/PC. Before reading place ALL drinks out of arms reach.
I actually should have listened to that warning. Drinking and reading at my computer, especially anything from Kate Daniels series is not a good thing...I almost broke my keyboard and computer screen from laughing.
Magic Grieves is an e-novella in the Kate Daniels series. I got a sneak peak at 2 chapters in this book and I am a bit disappointed......I am disappointed that I have to wait to find out what happens next. Again Ilona has done a great job of keeping Kate's stories interesting with humor and action, and even Curran in the first few paragraphs, whats not to love.

Anyone who has not read a book in Kate Daniels world needs to find a copy now.

As always, Jeaniene Frost didn't disappoint (well, I was disappointed it was over!). I have LOVED everything she has written. The Night Huntress series is my hands-down favorite. This was a great story, especially with Cat & Bones as the main characters. This is after Cat is turned fully, and this is also when she realizes that the abilities she gets from feeding don't last forever. I don't know how I missed this story before, but I was so glad to read it now!!! I also loved the previews to the other stories coming out. Especially Vlad's (squee!) (5/5)

The Kate Daniels prequel.......well, I have not read those books. I downloaded a sample of Magic Bites, and didn't even finish the sample. I REALLY wanted to like the series because it is on everyones's top lists, but I couldn't get into it. I think I don't like stories where there is tons of different creatures, and they all live out in the open in this mythical alternate universe.....just a little too much, you know? But still, after getting through the beginning, I loved the Hollows series, so maybe this is similar. This prequel, however, I did enjoy. (3.5/5) and I may go back and try Magic Bites again, now that I know a little more about the new world in the book. I didn't read any of the previews, because I didn't think I'd really get it. Plus, I never read a series out of order!

I only read "One for the Money", and it was far shorter than I expected. Enjoyable, good to know how Cat & Bones got banished from Bite (which is mentioned in This Side of the Grave), but nothing too new or spectacular. Just quick and fun. Four stars because of Bones teaching Justina self-defense.

Only read the Ilona Andrews installment entitled 'A Questionable Client', dealing with Kate's first meeting with Saiman. Very short, but witty, and serving as a good introduction to the world and the character of Saiman.

I always forget about these little novella's, but some can be quite fun.

Magic Graves offers nice fixes for both Jeaniene Frost’s Night Huntress and Ilona Andrews’ Kate Daniels series in between the novels. With a short story set in each world, fans get some time with favorite characters.

The Night Huntress story, “One for the Money,” offers up a hearty Cat and Bones fix for those who love the romance angle of the novels. It gives us a taste of Cat and Bones’ more “simple” tasks — this time taking on a protection detail for a spoiled human woman. Justina ends up tagging along, too. Expect forays into the night club in Cat’s hometown and husband/wife sexy time. It does give away a few events that occur up through the third novel, At Grave’s End, but overall, wouldn’t spoil anything significant if you haven’t already dived into the series.

Andrews’ story “A Questionable Client” was something I was excited for: details on how Kate met Saiman. This novella is perfect for those who haven’t yet read the Kate Daniels books, because it gives a great peek into the world and who Kate is whilst she takes on one night of bodyguard detail for the eccentric Saiman. Kate’s trademark snark and wit permeate this prequel to Magic Bites. A definitely win.

In addition to the short glimpses into excellent series, there’s plenty of bonus sneak peek content including — oh yes — an excerpt from Once Burned, the first Night Prince novel (a.k.a. Vlad’s series). Please note: This title is available only as an eBook currently.

Sexual content: One sex scene

Picked it up for the KD story. The J Frost story didn't grab me.

This is a short story about Cat and Bones that takes place between books 4 & 5. Cat's uncle Don asks them to watch a daughter of a friend of his from a hit man. I liked it ok for a short story. I listened to it on audio however, and I have to say that I'm definitely not a fan of audio books. I would much rather read!
