Ava is so whiny, I couldn't through chapter 2.

No plot, all smut. He’s a child and she’s weak.

It was good and I kind of couldn’t put it down. But it just felt very repetitive until the last 50 pages.

There are so many red flags with Jesse. Crazy, manipulative, possessive, controlling, jealousy, obviously has temper/anger issues, secretive about his life, etc. He wants to control every aspect of Ava’s life. Jesse is the type of man that you would get a restraining order because he might kill you if you don’t stay with him. And Ava is so weak… letting him use sex to make her forget to ask questions. Ugh.

4 stars because the book is entertaining.

CWs: forceful (though consensual) sexual situations that may be triggering for some

Welp. None of the negative reviews are wrong. Jesse is a psychopath, definitely unlikable through most of the book. But if you're into this type of thing *raises hand self consciously*, then go for it. The bonus chapter at the end, which also happens to be the only bit of writing from the male perspective, humanizes Jesse quite a bit and I'm sad he didn't get to speak throughout the story. Overall, a good bit of smut for lil ol' me. Cliffhanger 10/10.

If you're new to this subgenre but wanna dabble, skip this and go for Sylvia Day's Crossfire series. You'll find better-developed (and infinitely more likable) characters with a similar plot.

I didn't really like this book. It was too repetitive. Having the female MC get scared and run away was fine once, more than that was just lazy writing. I also wanted to see the male MC's POV. I know the author went back a decade later and wrote books from his side, but that doesn't help this book. There's no connection to him as a character with the way he's written here. And the story was too long for basically nothing to happen. Not impressed.

Total guilty pleasure read. So much wrong with this story, and yet I couldn’t put this book down. Jesse has some serious issues, and in real life we would call him an abuser... yet I loved him.

There were parts that dragged out way to long for me, and I hated all the miscommunication issues. In fact the miscommunication, or no communication really pissed me off. It became repetitive and I felt like a lot of it could have been cut out.

Overall I flew through this book and I’m picking up book 2 immediately.

Holy Shit!!!
This book made me giggle in the subway, made me frown and scream What the bloody hell?!
The end was quite... shocking... a little Fifty Shades-ish... but I liked the book
