This is such a beautiful book. It was given to me as a birthday gift by a close friend. Little me would have appreciated having this. There really weren't things like this when I was growing up. This hugs that little person inside of me. And the monster I've carried around for so long. I also love the little guide in the back of terminology and explanations. I will cherish this gift.

This beautiful picture book does an incredible job representing how dysphoria feels and what to do about it in child- and adult-friendly terms.

I'm so happy that this book is going to exist! A picture book for children about a child struggling with gender dysphoria and coming into her gender identity? Perfection. I loved the art in this, it's super engaging and the narrative of the story is easy to follow while never sugar-coating anything. I can't wait for kids to be able to access this book.

(I received an E-ARC from Netgalley)

Such a beautifully illustrated book that does an AMAZING job talking about body dysphoria and transitioning in a way young children can easily understand and relate with. I will be buying this one for sure and hope it becomes a must read in schools! Absolutely loved it!! Much thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance review copy!

I LOVED this book!!!! I am so happy this is being published!! So many people need to see and read this book! It’s so hard to help kids transition through this period because they are so scared and to see others and hear about others means the world to them! This was written so well and really speaks to the reader! The best part is the adult guide in the back so you can not only read them a story about them so they see they are not alone but also teach them correctly instead of second hand help!

A beautiful storyline for younger audiences in identifying body dysmorphia and gender identity. The illustrations are diverse and show the story as the words accompany them in a relatable way. I love how the author has included a helpful “adult tips” section at the ending on approaching the subject and terminology. These are such important issues for our youth and this book will be a helpful aid in conversations around them.

This book was such a joy to read between the colors and the way the illustrator played within the format of the pages and how to include the text into the illustrations which felt fresh and modern. The way to represent gender dysphoria (which is the biggest ennemi of many trans people) help us readers to get a better understanding of how it impact their lives in various ways. As the monster gets bigger and bigger on the page, you can feel the pain of the little girl, surrounded by darkness. and then, when she's being able to express her true self, the monster get smaller and smaller, as she feels more confident and the people around her get more understanding and accepting. It really show how us allies can have an impact in our way to interact with them to make them feel better. It's the first kid book I've seen tackling the gender dysphoria aspect front and center, and naming it, and I think the author and illustrator Laura Kate Dale & Hui Qing Ang did an AMAZING JOB! Would totally recommend the read.

In the end, we have an adult's guide to help with useful terminology and explanations, to give us adults the tools to answer questions children might have while reading this book: sex/gender, gender assigned at birth, intersex, social/medical transition, binary and different type of genders, gender euphoria (which is the opposite of gender dysphoria). And answers. to various questions that are often asked. Some answers are more specific to the UK medical system but then it's our responsability as readers to look for informations in our own area.
