Pretty sweet little story, about self discovery and finding your "purpose" in life. The world building seemed very cool but a little confusing since we only got glimpses of it. Also there was quite a lot of cursing which I didn't expect to be bothered by (because I curse a lot lol) but it seemed a bit out of place in this story. Overall I found it comforting to hear a story about another 29 year old struggling to figure out wtf to do with their life, especially in a setting that seemed idyllic and magical. Definitely made me feel seen!
Moderate: Cursing
Minor: Body horror

A sweet, lovely story that made me cry a little bit. Chambers has evidently put thought into her worldbuilding (I remember thinking about how the City’s existence was possible if the Earth’s land was all one continent, given that people cannot live far from water, and that thought was in the back of my mind until she wrote on water engineers), and I always appreciate that. It’s one of those books that you know the ending of going in, so you’re really just there for a story—and it was a really wonderful story!
Moderate: Body horror
