Warner and Adam are both hella toxic.

Juliette hasn't talked to anybody in 3 years and has never known kindness, so of course she falls for Adam: the only person to show her any kind of affection.
But the fact that he uses this, and starts to be romantic and sexual with her? My god, that cannot be healthy. This relationship is going to be so codependent oh my fucking god. I know that they're both only 17, and teenagers are dumb. But this smells of a potential abusive relationship.

Warner was an understandable, realistic person up until the halfway point where he moved past ruthless, right into cartoon villain evil. It felt like there was room for redemption. Like this boy (HE IS 19) was just traumatized as fuck. A very young man trying to keep an army together by being as scary and ruthless as possible.

But then
he threatened to kill a toddler, and sexually assaulted Juliette.

Why....?
Like, I get the threatening of the toddler MAYBE. But the sexual assault??? How the fuck was that supposed to make Juliette like him? Nobody was around to see it either, so, keeping his characterization in mind, who the fuck was he trying to impress? Because there is absolutely no way in hell that this dude thought Juliette actually liked him after countless no's and her watching as Adam tied him up. I know that Denial is a river in Egypt but Jesus.

Also I hate the ending with the resistance and the Hunger Games esque Castle (who is basically just Coin) and this absolutely bullshit "there's 56 of us and we all have superpowers". Literally gtfo. I have this sneaking suspicion that Castle will end up the same way as Coin does in the Hunger Games too.

A lot of the other reviews complain about he flowery prose, and yes. It is very flowery. I didn't mind it that much, most of the time. But it is definitely there.

I think I missed the time frame where I would have eaten this up.  There's a lot of world building that happens that is super intriguing but the romance element is juvenile (intentionally since it makes sense for the characters) but I cannot stop cringing.

I don't know if I will continue, I might read the Destroy Me novella since it's at the end of my copy from the library and see how I feel about it then.

Got me out of my book slump! Absolutely obsessed! Slow at first but after the first few chapters I was hooked. So many great and relatable quotes in such a dystopian novel. Just wish there was more diversity, most of the characters are described as white with blonde hair and blue eyes and society’s perception of “beautiful”. Looking forward to reading the rest of the series though with (hopefully) more diversity. Also such a gasping read.

I LOVED KENJI AND JAMES. the book is a bet boring and there’s too much details, it could’ve been a 100 page book.

adam >>> and kenji is the loml he's so funny fr. the character development is SO GOOD i was expecting it to be confusing w the whole stricken out text thing but it's surprisingly easy to follow. i lowkey dislike warner and i'm deffo team adam rn but the characterisation of warner is rlly good!! whenever warner calls juliette "love" omg... but the plot twists are so good like i was so certain smth was gonna happen BUT NO SMTH ELSE HAPPENS and then warner just exists and u cant even hate him bc he's kind of pretty. it's a really fast read tbh, i finished it in 2 days but it's a long series so i'll deffo j be continuously reading the series bc this book was SO GOOD and has me so intrigued. booktwt definitely didn't disappoint w hyping it up, it's really well written and the characters are my favs i adore all of them, especially kenji and adam. could have probs picked a better name than juliette for the main character let's b real but anyway we won't hold a grudge against that. but yeah it's a really good book and i'd recommend it<3 (also bonus points for the cover, it's ABSOLUTELY stunning)

i loved this book. I loved the writing style, how it reflected so well on Juliette’s state of mind, how it evolved throughout the book, her relationship with Adam, i just loved everything. The plot was good, it had a fast pace and short chapters, it kept me hooked. I’m left with SO many questions unanswered so it lowers my rating a little bit.

i don’t get why Warner is so loved throughout this series and Adam is so hated on. I don’t understand Warner’s motives and his actions, he’s an enigma for me. I don’t understand anything he does or says, like when he said he loved her i was like ????? since when. I’d like to see him explain more in these next books.
Adam is so sweet, i think he is a little overprotective though but he’s still my n1 ship with Juliette. It really intrigues me how Tahereh Mafi is going to make me love Warner and hate Adam, because at this point i feel it the other way around.

i’ll read destroy me to have a warner pov because i need it and then i’ll read unravel me.
Juliette <3 she’s so strong and amazing, i love her. I love that she has a weak state of mind, her chain of thought is so disorganized but she’s still questioning things about the people and places around her.
