Really interesting way of playing with format and structure, interesting characters and take on writing and authors. At times the
repetition/recursion
gets tedious and teasing out
the actual narrative gets meh
but overall it’s an enjoyable read.

"Being old kind of takes the magic out of things....it's sad. But also a relief."

This is about trying to write your way out of tremendous grief and it is beautiful.

Thanks to net galley for the audio ARC in exchange for a fair review. I wish I had gotten to this much earlier because it was a wild ride. You have to FOCUS when reading or listening to this one though - so you gotta be in the right headspace. I don’t know how to describe this but this is the most insane thing I’ve read in a long time. There were moments where I thought that it was too out there but I should have trusted Catriona Ward would always bring us back to earth and somehow convince us what happened is logical and real. Whew this was kind of my biggest fear at the end, but damn I loved it. Lost 1 star because I was a little distracted and bored at times, but once I got to the last third, I could not stop listening. Lots of triggers so please be careful!

This book was a ride. The ending was a little disappointing though

I absolutely devoured this book. The story does a great job of making you question yourself, questioning what is right. I can definitely see myself reading this again.

My only complaint is I wish those dove a bit deeper into commentary on how we talk about true crime. It touched on it briefly a couple of times, mentioning that it was never really their story to tell, but I would have loved more of that.

If you enjoyed this, you should read Devil House by John Darnielle. It's very similar in a lot of ways!

Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for a copy of Looking Glass Sound, by Catriona Ward.

Wow!! What a dark and twisty read. At one point I thought I had things figured out, but NOPE. 🤯

Looking Glass Sound just came out on August 8, 2023, and I suggest everyone reads it!!
