It's not like a children's book that I usually read, it's written with a rhyme, so it's like a poetry. I read this book without reading the synopsis beforehand, so I don't quite understand what it is about. It's a good message, but if we gave this book to children, will they understand the meaning behind this book? Or found it hard to comprehend?

I was looking for a similar title when I saw this book. I didn't know it was a picture book. But what great pictures! And funny that I coincidentally read it with, "Ban This Book." Not a particularly compelling story but amazing pictures and important message.

I listened to this book in audio, so I can't comment on the illustrations. The audio is beautifully produced and narrated, but the story needs the illustrations to know what's happening. It would work best paired with print as a read-along edition. The afterword talks about education for girls around the world.

I love the concept of this story, but the illustrations, while they are charming, could have better communicated what was happening in the story. My five year old, who reads at a first grade level, was a tad confused as to what was going on for a few pages and needed some explanation in order to understand.

Picture book.  As a fan of both the author and illustrator, I had this book on my radar.  The illustrations are absolutely stunning, showing the spark of reading and education as it spreads.  I immediately recognized the uniforms as being part of a school overseas, an idea that was confirmed by the author's note in the back.  However, both the illustrations and text are a bit abstract, making it a difficult book to read aloud.  The message of increasing access to education and reading for girls around the world is important, but the text doesn't sufficiently convey that message.  Best for one-on-one reading with a younger child or maybe as class discussion with older elementary students.
