He writes in an easily digestible manner, although it can get repetitive at times. I found myself talking about what I learned in this book whenever I could. It was fascinating.

This was an excellent read. You don’t have to be worried about fat shaming or ableism. More below.

I was worried about how he’d discuss weight and fatness. And although he discusses why we are fatter than ever, he walks the line between explanation and fat phobia with care. He doesn’t fat shame, or at least I didn’t feel he was fat shaming (and of course, your mileage may vary). He talks about calories in terms of energy, not an evil thing to avoid, and explains how and why diets frequently fail.

Actually I would give the first part of the book four stars for its fabulous presentation of the evolution of hominids. I would recommend this to my (high school) students as a well thought out review of the material.

The rest of the book makes some assumptions and , since I'm listening and not reading, is short on citations and back up articles. Additionally I have previous exposure to a lot of the material and the theories. This makes the material somewhat repetitive.

Finally, though I agree with the premises presented, sometimes the theories go beyond what I can accept and the tone gets a bit preachy.

I think that everybody should read this book. It's so enlightening and really makes you think about the choices you make and how they affect your body; even the ones you wouldn't really think harm you in the long run! It's incredible how many prevalent diseases are caused by our modern world with its overabundance of sugary processed foods and inventions that make our lives "easier." (i.e. escalators, elevators, cars) It was a truly amazing read. If you really are stressed for time, you can skip the evolution part (although it's really interesting) and just read the mismatch diseases section and on. This book really makes you think. Now I'm more wary about eating too many processed foods, I'm planning on eating more fresh fruits, veggies, nuts, and seeds, and I'm possibly going to take up a bit of barefoot running so my arches don't collapse. Totally worth the time!! Should be required reading in any health class.

Interesting and comprehensive, but sooo repetitive. If your focus slips for a moment, don’t worry, you will get to read the same thing many more times…

I mean... what is there to say? It's a book about how out bodies evolved: why we are bipedal, why we get Type 2 Diabetes, and where we might be headed. If that at all interests you, then awesome. If not, well then boo to you.

Excellent look at how we evolved to deal with specific kinds of diets and activity as well as illness, and how some current illness are "mismatch" diseases-things we aren't equipped to deal with. Good science without being too academic.

Human body is a book of stories about evolution of the human race. We just need to look in the right places in the right way. Daniel Lieberman takes us on this epic journey where we find why we are the way we are.

Apart from that it was fascinating to know how diseases like flat foot, myopia, and certain types of cancers are mismatch diseases apart from the obvious ones like type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular diseases.

Also no processed food and go work out!
