The next time a student complains about homework, I will have to restrain myself from hitting him over the head with this book.

Great from start to finish....... Inspirational!

Listened to this with the kids. It was definitely inspirational

Inspiring story although not really my cup of tea

Really enjoyable, well told, inspirational story

I actually (accidentally) read the young readers edition. I’m not sure what is different, but William’s story is absolutely amazing, from the famine in 2001-2002 to reading books from a local library, to scavenging and building. Yes, William had a supportive family and friends that could help pay for parts but even so, I can’t imagine being so focused and motivated. I certainly lacked any sort of scientific curiosity through school (and dare I say, even now?).
hopeful informative inspiring reflective slow-paced

Remarkable story, less than stellar writing. Still, I think it’s a book that should be read and shared. It was quite eye-opening to me that this level of poverty, hunger, and need still exists.

The first half of this book places the reader completely into the life of rural Malawians during a famine. At about the halfway point, the story gets to the title subject. We should never, ever take for granted again the food and electricity we use casually!

Full of hope, inspiration and determination. BTW...William is just now 21 years old....

Read this book for school, very enjoyable!

Cure for feeling frustrated or sorry about anything in life: Read a story about a Malawian boy from a rural village who had to drop out of school during his country's famine and decided to use his time to borrow books from a small local library to teach himself about energy so he could build a windmill to supply energy to his family's house.

Seriously, this is a great story.
