This is a fabulous inspiring story. It's a simple read but the description of these people and their lives are very clear. Even the more technical aspects of William's engineering is broken down in such a way that I didn't skip a sentence. I could feel the effects of the famine through this boy's eyes and can't help but smile at the turn of events in William's life all because of his determined ability to reach beyond his every day limitations.

After watching the movie I at once had to go and purchase this book to read. A thoroughly inspirational and rousing read of an in-depth autobiography by a truly remarkable individual who came from nothing, survived a famine and made something of himself.

Although despair over the family's living situation could have overwhelmed fourteen-year-old William Kamkwamba, being forced to stop attending school due to cost, seeing friends and a country wide drought and famine, William used an English dictionary to help him comb through science books at the library. A curiosity, his ingenuity, and self-education helped bring electricity to his home via a purpose-built wind turbine from junkyard scraps, bettering his families life and that of his village.

A true inspiring rag to riches story, this is an inspiring story and a must read for all kids/teenagers to inspire the next generation. The future of Africa and the world is a brighter place with people like William Kamkwamba. I cannot recommend this book enough!

Quite inspiring! This is much more than a book about a windmill. It's the story of William's life, and a lovely read!

The beginning was not what I expected, but I loved how everything came together in the end. This should be a must read for young students as it has so many layers to explore.

A very well written story about an African boy (William) who had a crazy dream and through pure determination and curiosity, made it happen. William was faced a lot of hardship, through famine, starvation, and not having money to go to school. Yet, he never lost that love of learning. Everything was new and magical and he followed his dream despite people calling him crazy.

“If you want to make it, all you have to do is try.”

It’s a motto that powered me through college and into my career. It made me successful, but it’s so easy to get lost in the hassle of life and others expectations. This book was a reminder to not lose my curiosity and to solve the important problems.

I was very inspired by this book. I had a hard time reading through the stories of his life surviving a famine. But I really was inspired by what he was able to accomplish as he pursued his own education at a library.

Such an inspiring and fascinating book! I am so glad I read this one and learned about William’s amazing story of survival, perseverance, and how he changed his world for the better. I was so impressed with the ending and his dreams to go back home to Africa and continue to educate, serve, and help people who grew up like he did. Really remarkable and beautiful.
