Honestly this type of book should only be a 1-2 days read for me but it took me so long. I've listened to the audiobook that netgally provided me but the narrator didn't just help. I think it was terrible.

If I read it on ebook I think I might give this a chance but considering that I did had a glimpse of this book, I think I would still end up not liking it. Why? The characters just seemed to annoyed me so much, I can't connect to them and I couldn't care for them.

Slow burning

This was a slow burning story that starts with the past and works to the fast pace of putting the piece together at the ending and seeing the love grow..

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I honestly was not expecting that. A cross between the godfather and crime lord by Mia knight. I wasn’t expecting him to be such a good guy,!or so freaking nice (not that it detracts from his badassery AT ALL because it totally doesn’t, he’s just a fair guy), you rarely see that in mafia tropes. Capo

This is my first read by Bella Di Corte, and I've loved every word of the story.
It's indeed poetic writing.

I always think about Capo and Mariposa. 🥰

Such a good story about Mac saving innocent Mari, but also putting his life in danger. Years later they save each other and their relationship was just everything.  All the secrets, twists and betrayals really keeps you on your toes in this mafia romance.

(This is a reread and it will probably be often)

If you are looking to be drawn in and captivated by a story, then this is the book for you! The first in the Gangsters of New York series, Bella DiCorte has a winner on her hands! A mafia love story, timeless, ruthless, unforgiving, scary, thrilling, exciting, passionate, she weaves a web that is easy to get tangled in. Mariposa is at the end of her line. She is broke with no home, she is desperately looking for something. When an opportunity knocks, little does she know how it will change her life. Capo has had his eye on her for a long time, and knowing her situation gives her an opportunity she can't refuse. Now his wife, she is going to find out exactly who he is. Will she understand? Will they every fall in love? Talk about smart, complex stories. This one has an intriguing plot interweaving family and loyalty. These characters are complex, well thought out and give you an understanding of their life. It's romance and suspense at it's best! I can't wait to see what else DiCorte has in store for us.

The narration for this is fantastic. Kae Denino is perfect for the role of Mariposa. She has a young voice, and with Mari being 21, she gives her a street wise sound with a little immaturity and inexperience. You can hear the toughness along with the vulnerability which is perfect! Armen Taylor is new to me, and what a voice he has! Italian accent to melt your heart, he brings Capo to life. With a sternness to run your blood cold to a warmth like melted chocolate, he has it all. This team was well cast and make the listen!

Usually, I want the main characters to be in contact within the first few pages, but in this case, they didn't have any real contact until 20% into the book, and it worked. Mari was a great FMC who was strong and vulnerable at the same time.

Due to the mixed reviews, I wanted to see if I’d like this book since I bought a book box with this book in it with a special edition cover.

Despite the minor errors, which didn’t take away from book at all, I absolutely loved the story. I fell in love with the writing and prose.
This author, the way she writes a love story, is beautiful.
What critics complained about was the inner dialogue but that’s what helped me fall in love with these characters. Very unique writing that captured my attention till I was done reading.
I’m a mafia skank. I said it. I love my fictional mafia men and this will go down and one of my favorite mafia romances.

Yes to an HEA.
