At the risk of appearing to be a dinosaur geek ala Ross Geller of Friends, I had been seen reading a novel with a dinosaur holding a telescope on the cover. Not something I'm keen on, being 40 years of age at the time, but Far-Seer is worth it.
This is the story of a planet inhabited by intelligent dinosaurs, our hero being an astrologer seeking the truth about their world. Be warned that this is part of a trilogy, and they may be hard to find. Although
I did enjoy it, I will not be moving on to the rest. Rather, I will move on to Sawyer's later stuff which,
I'm told, gets better and better.

Galileosaurus Rex

If you like dinosaurs and science and the idea of dinosaurs doing science, then this is the book (and series) for you.

Picked up and put down a bunch of books trying to find The Next Thing, and eventually said "Fuck it, dinosaur people." The book outperforms the cover with a fairly conventional "scientist discovers something big that presents more crises and bigger questions" plot.

hahahaha oh man

okay so the thing you gotta understand is my manager loaned me this book a year ago

this was a terrible mistake as i read seventy pages (which were quite interesting!) and set it aside

i knew i should finish! but the growing sense of guilt for not having done so and returned it meant that i put it off even further as i am a contrary soul who is allergic to any feeling of readerly obligation

(this is why i'm terrible at book clubs)

ANYWAYS. i was home sick today and thought to myself girl. you gotta do this. you gotta stop dodging your manager every time he asks about getting his book back. YOU GOTTA READ THE THING

i read the thing. it is about a dinosaur astronomer who discovers that they live on a moon which is going to disintegrate in about thirty generations so they gotta develop themselves a space program tout suite

i know what you're all thinking. that sounds great, why on earth would you put off reading it for a year? all i can say is pobody's nerfect

A fascinating and episodic epic that never truly acknowledges its absurdity - dinosaur sex follows individual narratives of animalistic hunts and high-seas murder, and that's before our lead becomes a religious deity. The final act is far too conventional for such a tale, but Sawyer juggles so much that it's a wonder he doesn't drop more.

The plot was alright, but the writing seemed pretty basic.

I FINALLY found myself a copy of this book. It's a digital one, given, but finally. This has been on my list forever. Sentient dinosaurs in space?? Sign me up. It definitely lived up to my expectations- possibly because the premise already made me happy enough to ignore any problems, but who cares. Dinosaurs in space beat that 100%. The side-storyline about the babies was kind of extraneous though - though I did like Wab-Novato. Oh well, it only took up a couple of pages. Must go read sequel now.
