Disturbingly dark. Not at all what I expected — but heinous nonetheless. This nontraditional tale of horror will definitely fuck up your brain.

CW / TW that isnt in Storygraph list : Descriptive scene of a minor engaging in sexual behavior

I honestly don't know how to rate this. I loved the characters and found myself connecting to them somehow, finding the whole
rebirthing
thing to be strangely therapeutic in a sense. However, the complete lack of respect Angel shows at the end for Shyla made me frown, despite knowing it was not out of character. As well, the n word having made an appearance twice was also very offputting. It was so out of place, I can't imagine why Ralston chose to add it in the first place. It's a shame, as it was a very lovely story otherwise.

This was truly one demented, excessively gory and odious, yet unique book. I don't think I'll ever be able to read this book again. I really enjoyed it, i think. 😅 I like to think i have a pretty strong stomach. I've seen many a thing in my life, but NEVER before has a book made me so nauseated that I physically turned the book from my face and looked away from it to process and not vomit on my book and bed 🤢... but just like true horror, it drew me back in.

This was a "read at your own pace" buddy read, with three IG friends. We shall see what they think as well!!

This is a hard book to rate or review because I can’t say I enjoyed this book by any means but it’s not the sort of book you’re meant to enjoy (if someone told me they enjoyed this book I think I’d back away slowly and then run as far away as I could) it’s definitely a gruesome book that’s not for the feint of heart and I would not take trigger warnings lightly for this book it’s brutal honestly.

Just don’t read this. It’s pure garbage. It’s an insult to the genre to call this horror.

I don’t even know what to say about this book. Someone recommended it as a super disturbing book and I thought why not. Was it disturbing? Yes. Did it make me not want to read it? No. Honestly I’ve read worse, but I really enjoyed how the parallels came into fruition. Major trigger warnings though for anyone reading this.
