French artist travels in the winter to a guesthouse where our narrator works in Sokcho, a town on the North/South Korean border that flourishes as a summer beach town. Our narrator herself is a French-Korean woman, and the book explores themes of identity and being seen as the two visit sites for the artist to draw inspiration from.

Very quick read. Feels like a story about nothing on the surface, but I liked it, even though it’s something that I normally wouldn’t consider up my alley. I think the length of the book was perfect for what it was doing, and I’d love to reread it again when I have a few more brain cells to spare to take a more analytical perspective.

Not my thing. Don’t read this if you have any issues with food or body image.
