Hmm... verging on irritating for the most part but strangely compelling near the end. 2.5 stars.

First read in 2001 (Paris!) and re-read 90927. It's weird and odd with some things it tries to say about self and gender (among many other things). I'm not sure how well it succeeds.

I have a deep and abiding love for the pet.

Very difficult to get through the first half. Even once I started getting interested I still struggled to keep reading. Final quarter put it all together and it ended up lovely and all came together.

An interesting semi-satire, and the hero-ine's journey from conceited hedonist to a sort of hotch-potch version of Beauty from 'Beauty and the Beast' is very touching, but the alien setting was a little too heavily emphasised and distracted from the message.

An unnamed human who shifts fluidly between genders, this is a world where humans can change bodies on the regular, designing their new ones and leaving the old husks behind as easily as waking. The cover of this book is as colorful as the interior, and as beautiful. The slang is great. An incredible sci-fi masterpiece that I've read over and over again.

Estimated first read between 1999 and 2003.
