DAMN NOW THIS IS A BOOK!!!

World building, pace and plot were amazing especially with tension but characters, it usually it takes a while to like them, but here I loved Laia ans Elias immediately.
Overall I love this book.

(4) I kind of don’t know what to think about this one. Because it was really well written with nice prose and all, and the plot was constructed to always be interesting. But I’d heard such raving reviews about this whole series, including just this first book, which made me think it was going to be a lot better than it was.

I think my biggest issue was that none of the characters really connected with me. Their issues felt a little stereotypical in YA. Now, I liked reading about them for the time I did and was entertained the whole time; I’m just not thinking about the characters afterwards like I’ve seen all the other readers talk about. And I like that feeling of being so interested in a character’s complexity that I dwell on it way after, so I’m a little disappointed.

That being said, I do really like Helene. She and Laia were good strong female characters without being the terrible “female character who’s strong because only she’s masculinized and fights people” cliche. I have a lot of hope that the future books will delve more deeply into the characters and will hopefully sort out the vaguely insta-loveish feelings I got from Laia and Elias. After that ending, I know so much is in store and I’m excited for it.
