It's a really interesting concept, and I did feel generally invested in the plot, but I'm not sure I'll read the sequel. I think if a book is going to be marketed as an engaging and entertaining epic, the extensive length has to be justified by a consistent emotional or thrilling payoff. I didn't always feel that payoff. Additionally, the boiling scene around 200 pages in was too much. It turned me off for the rest of the book.

DID NOT FINISH

I can’t recall where exactly I stopped but it was a long way into the book but still before the death of the Female love interest and after he manages to get his boat back I think… anyways, I took a break and than the series came out… when I’ve learned that the FL died I kind of gave up on the story… well I’m not that curious anymore about the rest. I’m not saying it’s a bad story, it’s just not drawing me in.

The pacing can be slow at times due to the sheer depth of detail, but it ultimately enhances the world-building rather than detracting from the experience.
