I liked it probably as much as the first one, although I can't give either of them 5 stars. This one moves much faster than the first two, and I liked that. But I don't always follow Miranda's train of thought, so I can't always relate to her, especially at the very end. Still, it was a good book. Definitely worth reading.
THIS ENTIRE REVIEW IS FULL OF SPOILERS
First of all I'd like to point out the few good parts of this book.
1. Alex found his way to Miranda. I always assumed they would because the first book was about her, and the second book was about him, and naturally, they'd have to meet, but it was still awesome that they found each other :)
2. They didn't starve. I was actually surprised no one starved during the whole book, since that seemed like the main theme in the first two. But it was god that nobody, (well, none on the main characters) starved to death in this one.
That's it. Two things I liked about this book.
Now the things I ABSOLUTELY HATED:
1. Miranda. She's awfully depressing in this book, and she was in Life as We Knew it. It ruins my mood. She's also childish and naive. She "ran away from home" cause her mom upset her. Really though?
2. Miranda and Alex's romance. It's RIDICULOUS. They go from disliking each other one second, to being all over each other "in love" the next. I was looking forward to the romantic part of this book, but i was really disappointed the relationship happened so suddenly.
3. Charlie. I didn't hate his character, just the fact that he was there. All I know about him is that he is Hal's friend, and he was on the road with them. Seriously. That's IT. Then he dies. Like, what was the point of him even being there? I had no emotional connection with him at all.
4. Syl. Her presence was also unnecessary. Matt (a character i had actually liked) went out of nowhere and impulsively married a random girl, who turns out to be really weird. I never really understood Syl. She creeped me out. Through the whole book, I was just waiting for her to steal all of their food and run away. Was Sylvia even her real name?
5. Julie's death. This may sound terrible, but I wish Matt had died instead. This is for Alex's sake. He's already lost most of his family, why did he have to lose Julie too? I liked Julie, and I really didn't like Matt. Plus, Alex faces the sorrow of losing his whole family (except Carlos), and Miranda loses her cat. I just wished their pain was evened out. After all, this is a tragedy.
6. The plot. It seemed rushed, and it could have been much better. It's like SBP put a whole bunch of events in a hat, picked some, and put them in the story. Despicable.
6. The end. She talked about how guilty she was for "killing" Julie, and how reluctant she was to tell Alex, when she knew Alex would have done it himself. It was confusing. Then she went on about how she would stop writing in her diaries, but she wouldn't burn them. Ok. By then, I was so annoued with the whole book I didn't even care.
Overall, it just seemed like SBP rushed, and threw this book together. I personally think the book had potential, and could have been SO much better, but my dreams were crushed... So when I was done, i literally threw the book at the wall, it was that bad. What a waste of a read. I'm generously giving it 2 stars because, at least only two people died. It would've been terrible if Alex or Miranda's mom did. So yea, 2/5.

I love this series. This book ended somewhat abruptly. I am hoping that just means another book is coming.
Faster paced which is nice. Times are even more desperate, which I'm sure no one expected. Hope after hope is dashed.
This book didn't match the tone of the other two, and I was put off by how much this one focused on interpersonal relations. I'm here for a post-apocalyptic survival story. I really don't care who's in love with who, especially when none of it seems plausible.
3rd book in the series. Not as good as the first 2 but still a good read. Kinda felt like a rehash of the first one in places and everyone is still relying far too heavily on finding canned food, and still no outhouse has been built, but its still an entertaining series.
I loved how the family dynamics are changing although Miranda is still prone to a good solid temper tantrum and at times her younger brother definitely appears to be the older of the two. I think the premise of this book is that life will find a way, just like in Jurassic Park but with less bitey things.
Now I have to wait for the 4th book to arrive in the mail because no kindle edition and its not at the library here either. See you in a month :)

Liked this one the best so far, the characters from the first 2 meet and the fight for survival continues. Things are still rough and now there are more people to care for and more concerns.
I didn't like this one as much as I did the others. Loved the first, liked the second, 3rd was okay. I didn't buy the Alex/Miranda love so much. Maybe too much time passed for me between installments. That said, I'm sure teens will eat them up!
Although it starts with the same slow and sinister tone that drove me through the first book, it devolves into a teenager love drama pretty rapidly. The male interest is, of course, completely an ass and creates the center-stage conflict that distracts from the apocalypse. Even the characters I loved in the first book--the mother, and brother Matt have lost quite a bit of their character power and only move along the plot. The narrator once again did a stellar job, and there were some amazing moments (near the beginning and at the end) where her emotions shows right through and brings the horrible situations alive. I realize my issue is that the writer and I wanted two different things from this book. Still, I can't call it anything other than a pretty dissapointing sequal to an excellent, excellent first novel.
