I love these books. I loved seeing these characters again and knowing what happens to them. It's so interesting to see how they deal with life going through the food storage. I loved seeing Miranda go break into houses and find things for her family to use. She really enjoys doing that and I can see why. Then Matt got married to this random girl named Syl and I don't like her. I mean she killed their cat and was kind of a bitch once in a while. She had no right to kill their cat without their knowledge she doesn't belong in that family. The one thing she brought to the story was some knowledge of what the world was like outside this little town. She had to sleep with people for extra food. If this was real things like that would definitely happen. So I felt for her there. And I also liked how she came up with the idea to sacrifice things to the moon goddess. That was cool. I loved it when Mirandas dad came back and brought Alex and Julie. They were from the second book and I loved seeing them again. But Mirandas and Alexs relationship didn't make any sense. I don't understand why they liked each other so much. Their only real reason was they were around the same age. It went from being so annoyed with each other to making out. They had more of a brother sister bond in my opinion. But they had good scenes together like when they broke into one house and found a man who was eaten by his dog. Then they got a bunch of food and stole a van. It was very dark but appropriate for the story. I also liked when they left town to find nuns to take Julie but that didn't work out and they ended up burying one of the nuns. Also the ending was crazy with the twister and Julie lost the ability to move her body. So Miranda killed her knowing that Alex would want her too. And then he came back and now he might eventually find out. For now they're leaving town and finding the safe place. It was such a good ending and makes me excited to read the next one. It was very dark but I feel like that made it more truthful. Anyway definitely 4 stars maybe closer to 5.
Post-apocalyptic fiction is my catnip. I can't resist, and I am particularly fond of Pfeffer's series. It has just the right amount of drama and danger. I love the intimacy of Miranda's diary. I love the determination and will to continue of her family. I love that the book is about family and community, more than it is about disaster and mayhem.

Another sequel. I loved Life As We Knew It and yay that this was also great! It didn't shake my core with terror in the same way, but still make me think and want to appreciate the beauty of my world a little more.
Last year, Miranda's life - and the entire world - shifted into survival mode as the moon was knocked out of orbit by an asteriod. The weather is still all wrong and only a very sturdy few are left in her town. Food is the most obvious need - and when Miranda's dad arrives with her step-mom and several others, tensions build. How will everyone get fed in a seemingly dead world? Interestingly, one of the strangers that arrived with Miranda's dad is Miranda's age and Alex and his sister Julie add a whole new dynamic to the house.
There is some romance, of course, and while I enjoyed it in end, because of the diary format I had a harder time believing that feelings could get so deep so fast. But, desperate times, you know. And I still enjoyed Miranda as a narrator - she's honest about her desperation and fears of the future, with some of that snarkiness still popping up. She has to really grow up as she realizes that life will just never be "normal" again and to ever feel happy, she just has to find a way to be satisfied with what she's got.

cried at the end even though I saw it coming. Super fast series to read. Read them all in 3 days
I love this series. I flew through this book and cannot wait to read the next one.
Not as riveting as the first two, but still pretty good. All of the religion / praying / soul searching made it fall flat for me. The ending was a bit to tidy too.
I've never read a book in one sitting before. I was on the edge of my seat for the most part but wow did that ending make me want to throw it across the room
A highly addictive series...The first book was by far the best but all the books really stand alone in their stories. On the one hand, you want the happy ending but on the other, you want it to be realistic. It ended up a little more tragic than I would have liked but what fun to read.
