I haven't read any of the other books in the series, but I think this one stands well on it's own two feet. The characters are strong and believable, and there are plenty of opportunities to love and hate every character in the book because they all make some spectacularly good and spectacularly terrible decisions.

The relationships of the young people were fascinating to watch... almost as if the gravitational pull of the moon was working on them, too... no one could stand to be alone. The foreshadowing (especially in parallels) was excellently done, and helped contribute to the mood of upcoming scenes.

An excellent and quick read for teens and grownups alike!

I didn't enjoy this as much as the other two in the series. I realized that I really don't like either of the main characters - Miranda not having matured at all in the year since the disaster, and Alex still being his usual men-know-best arrogant self - and while I appreciate how Pfeffer is trying to show human nature by revealing every side character to be flawed as well, I just didn't care that much about the story. At this point, they will live, or they won't, and it doesn't seem to interest me much one way or the other.

In addition, parts seemed out of place or far fetched. I was disappointed with the depiction of Alex and Miranda's "relationship" - at least on Miranda's side (the only side we get), it seemed to be 90% based on her feeling like there were no other surviving teenage boys in the world. Um, I'm sure they exist and perhaps once your family is on the move, you would find them. It just came on really suddenly and wasn't believable.

Matt's behavior in particular got to me. Maybe he's just cracked after a year, but it all seemed really out of character.

It's good to read to find out the next events, but not because I was particularly emotionally attached.

Definitely a YA read. Nothing wrong with that. Read it because I read the other two.

Miranda meet Alex. Life drags on.

I can't rate this book. Or review it. Or talk about it. I have no idea whether I liked it or hated it. No: I know that because of this book I am probably not going to re-read this series, and that is a shame, because I liked the other books so much. I know that I am beyond conflicted about what took place in this book, and I'm going to have to think about it a lot more before I can make any sense of it for other people. I just don't even know.
