Did I skip book two so that I could see what happened to the characters from book one? Yes, yes I did.
I enjoyed this book up until the ending, which I had mixed feelings about.

I really enjoyed this book. There were parts that I didn't like, but overall I thought it was really well done. I do wish some of the characters would have offered up more information. For me it's hard to love someone when they are still clearly keeping secrets. We also still don't know much about Sly, frankly her character as a whole irritated me, also Matt became a real jerk once she showed up. It was nice getting to see all the characters from the first 2 books come together, but half of the book i just wanted to slap Alex.
I'm not sure if I will read the next book, while I enjoyed this one I haven't heard the best things surrounding the 4th book. It be nice to see what happened to everyone, though I'm a little scared it might ruin this series for me. Guess I'll just have to wait see how I feel later on.

Book three is the Last Survivors series takes us back to Howell, Pennsylvania. It’s been a year since an asteroid knocked the moon out of its orbit and closer to the earth. Miranda Evans, her mother and two brothers have managed to survive, but most of the townspeople have left and food is increasingly scarce. A tentative Spring brings new hope, at least until Miranda’s father and stepmother arrive with a new baby, and three strangers in tow.

This was really a major disappointment. Miranda has become less mature than when we left her at the end of book 1. She whines and complains, throws tantrums, and runs off in a huff. Then there is her over-the-top watched-too-many-soap-operas-and-read-too-many-bodice-rippers “But I love you!” dialogue with Alex. Puh-leeze! Alex has also retreated into a silent, obstinate teen with none of the leadership and resourcefulness he displayed in book 2.

Well, at least it reminds me why I generally dislike post-apocalyptic / dystopian fiction. It was a fast read, but seriously, don’t waste your time.

Why did I pick this depressing book for the first one I read this year??
I'm thinking it's more for high school than middle school, as the horror seems so in your face in this setting...

To be honest I really liked the first two books. The first was great. I really enjoyed it. The second was like the first just following a new character. Honestly I was going to read this book but I really don't want to relive it all over again with just a different character.
