Bethany a soccer player in High School. She thinks about soccer, a lot, till.. A new student Allien arrives and likes to gear her talk. He has some strange looking family members that aren’t so nice. There’s something else, he’s not really human. Things get dangerous and Bethany goes to Fairy.
I really enjoyed the colored drawings and the details put into the art.

This was one of my favorite stories in the series, and I now remember why. The story is interesting, though sometimes confusing, but the thing that really impressed me was the art.
When Bethney goes to the Fae realm and it transitions to color? That was such a fantastic and fun idea, it made the world seem so magical and different, which I assume was the point.
I really liked it. And I love how proactive the girls are in these stories, they don't sit around waiting for help, they are the help! :)

***DNF (Did Not Finish)

This is only the second book in the My Boyfriend is a Monster Series that I have read. Although I did not finish it. The art style was different but it was just so weird and totally not my cup of tea. And no matter what the story just could not hook me nor did the characters grab my attention. I maybe got a third or even halfway through but by that point I was just really skimming. I don't think I'm going to try and finish this one. However, I'm still going to read the others in this series. This story/volume just wasn't my cup of tea.

This is probably my 2nd favorite of the series though none of the "sequels" has lived up to the 1st in the series. Under His Spell was much more unique than #2 & #3.

I’m reviewing this for NetGalley.

Under His Spell is the fourth graphic novel in the My Boyfriend is a Monster series.
Unlike most girls at her high school, Bethany Farmer is focused and does not spend her time thinking about boys. Her best friend, Annie, is definitely boy crazy and talks about them nonstop. Bethany is praised by her teachers, parents, and soccer coach for being focused but is often ridiculed by her soccer mates about being boring because of it.

One day, there is a new guy, Allein, at school that seems to like her. She slowly gets to know a little bit about him and where he came from. When she’s out with some of her friends, Bethany gets attacked and later learns that it Allein’s cousins. She also learns that Allein is a fae and apparently in line for the throne. If his cousins kill him, Bynal, will become king. Will Bethany want to continue to see Allein? If she does, will Allein even be alive?

I thought this one was ok. I’ve read the second and third graphic novel in this series. I definitely like the third one the best. I thought the illustrations could have been much better. I did like that there was a section of the book that was in color. It definitely added a magical element to this paranormal series. I liked Bethany. She actually had a spine and wanted to help Allein in the fighting scenes.

I find the lower average review score for this book in the My Boyfriend Is A Monster series unjust, given that its heroine shows more strength and nerve than the previous female leads, and the "monster" fae boy shows plenty of mystery, (literal) color, and mythology compared to the previous "monster" love interests.
