I haven't finished a book this quickly in years.

I really liked this book. The main characters are multiple queer characters and a POC character. I liked the writing style and the pacing and just the genre and storyline in general.
However, one of the things I didn’t like was the (internalized?) biphobia. They never once said the word bi in this book — even when it’s pretty obvious two characters are bi — except one time when it was portrayed as mockery.
Next to that, I’m also left with a lot of questions unanswered after finishing this book.
We don’t know whether Simon will get his magic back or why he’s immune. It is hinted that he is a dead spot himself, but why? And why now? It’s all a bit vague and unclear.

A last thing I don’t really know how to feel about is Agatha’s storyline.
earlier (can’t where, somewhere in the second book) Agatha made clear that she wasn’t queer. Something about how she wished she was, because then she would’ve had an explanation for herself why she felt this way and acted this way. Now, in the end, she ended up with Niamh who — in my opinion — didn’t have much of a purpose and was just introduced solely to give Agatha a relationship. So I don’t really know what to think about it, to be honest.

However, I do recommend this book!

Okay friends, I'm going to try to put my thoughts into words here without any spoilers! In reality, this book is three stories in one, focusing on Simon and Baz, Penelope and Shepard, and Agatha. They overlap in some ways, but you really get a lot of character depth in each of these three plot lines.

This book is more character driven than plot, at least in my opinion. It's about healing, moving beyond the past, and figuring out what that means for the future. I think Rowell did an excellent job with this, showing us how all of the characters are healing through their trauma. Also I promise if you're looking for Simon and Baz moments, you get a lot of them.

I might have to write a full review for this one for the blog, but I'm going to wait a bit until more people have read it. Just prepared for it to tug on all of your heartstrings.
