This is a powerful mixed media collection of what it means to be Black in the present. The editors have collected photographs, artwork, poetry, social media posts, interviews and more to create this book. This is a book to keep in your diverse book collection. It is a book to pick up again from time to time and browse through, reading more in depth the pieces that catch your attention in the moment. I will definitely be keeping this on my shelf.

This is a wonderful book full of collections of stories, poems, photographs, conversations, social media posts and so much more.

The book centers around being Black. Why would a 64 year old white woman think that a book like this is important? Because I am a 64 year old white woman that can only imagine what it is like to be a person of color in an age of such uncertainty.

This book opened a small window into being Black. I will NEVER fully understand, but I can sure try and this book sure helped with that understanding.

Thanks to Netgalley and One World for this advanced readers copy. This book is due to release on December 1, 2020.

An excellent collection of writing and art by Black artists on topics ranging from reparations to BLM to food cultures to music. This will be especially valuable for educational use and reading groups.

I found this book to be cool as fk. And I would recommend d to anyone wanting to learn about the wide diaspora of black culture.

But honestly I’m not the person you should be listening to about why you should read this book. Even reading it, I knew it was important as a white lady to be reading it, but I also knew I was intruding on sacred space that wasn’t “for me” necessarily (to be clear I do not mean to imply that I think it should be for me in any way). There are black reviewers here on Goodreads, go read their reviews and listen to their thoughts.
