this one was kind of a disappointment for me. i still loved the characters and i enjoyed seeing them together for the whole book this time, but i DESPISE the “i don’t wanna get married” trope (it’s in a surprising number of books !!!). it’s not that im opposed to that POV, cause i might even feel the same, but writing a whole book planning the wedding only to end with the last chapter having both characters bail on their wedding … incredibly unsatisfying and frustrating. especially since their reasons for not wanting to be married didn’t make any fucking sense to me. like goddamn it is just a piece of paper and a party that you ALREADY PAID FOR.

so i can’t say much about the plot cause it was basically building up to that unsatisfying conclusion the whole time. and even though i love the characters and the writing, i tire of the excessive banter, too. every conversation doesn’t have to be a game of words and wit.. it gets exhausting to read.

oh well, i still like Alexis Hall and i’m about to read 4 more books in a row from them so i hope they are better !

I like the way this author writes stories, however, I am unsure about how I feel about the ending. I like that it is not typical, but it felt a little odd. This author does a good job of making incredibly easy to read books. The characters seemed a little less realistic in this one than the first one.

Rating subject to change tbh i have a very weak grip on what i thought of this.....

i have MANY feelings and no idea how to articulate them..... this book is a ROLLERCOASTER. I loved Luc and Oliver again, as scrappy and messy as they were, ultimately it shines through how much they care about each other and i love them so so much. The banter and humour was top notch as per usual as well as some hard hitting feels (i did cry lmao) and was generally very entertaining!!!

I thought the structure was quite odd but the content was great - this must be something like 85% dialogue. I really enjoyed some of Luc and Olivers more thought provoking discussions/arguments (there were many lmao) e.g surrounding Olivers identity and self expression as a gay man and the herteronormativity of weddings and marriage. I just really wish the ending wasnt so abrupt? And i dont think i totally got it? But i really did enjoy spending the day with Luc and Oliver and the extended gang, but the ending has left me on a bit of a downer....

The characters felt stagnant in their development.
