This book was phenomenal! Elizabeth Taylor is a true icon. She lived her life with true love and passion. She wasn't just an amazing actress and celebrity, she was an incredible activist whose work impacted millions of lives. Amongst all the good there was darkness too. She struggled, made mistakes, and encountered lots of heartbreak, but she never let it so her from living her life to the fullest. Kate Andersen Brower does an incredible job telling Elizabeth Taylor's story.

What an incredible life!! I learned so much listening to this biography of Elizabeth Taylor! From her marriages, her losses, her career, her addictions and later her AIDS activism. It was truly enlightening and highlighted just want an amazing life she led, right to the end. Great on audio too.

5★: THIS MADE ME WANT TO WATCH ALL HER MOVIES! I consumed this book in one day! I didn’t really know much about E.T. before, other than she and Michael Jackson were friends -- and that she had a lot of husbands. So I expected to hear about those relationships and the author did NOT disappoint. What I did not expect was to find things I had in common with her AND to admire her. I had read [b:The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo|32620332|The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo|Taylor Jenkins Reid|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1664458703l/32620332._SY75_.jpg|46885151] by Taylor Jenkins Reid (TJR) earlier this year; it was a 2017 historical fiction book based loosely on Elizabeth Taylor. It was fun to compare the two books to find out how loose was loose lol. Now, I have an even greater appreciation for TJR and her research, especially since this biography JUST came out three weeks ago. I may also read one or two of E.T.’s own books, which I didn’t know existed. Things I learned:
1. E.T.’s mother could’ve given Jennette McCurdy’s mom a run for her money!!!
2. E.T. had “rampant empathy”
3. She had a strong connection with animals
4. She was the first actress to be paid $1 million for a movie
5. She had jeweler-level jewel knowledge lol
6. She was a powerful activist
7. She wasn’t born in the U.S.
8. She had a photographic memory!
9. The paparazzi’s existence started with Elizabeth Taylor

Of course you could find out all these things in her wiki or some other website, but hearing it all chronologically with quotes from other famous people interjected here and there was the way to go. You know, authored by someone who actually researches their facts the old-fashioned way.

Ahhhh, old Hollywood. ❤️

I loved seeing Taylor's advocacy work as well as her kindness. I  did wish to see the behind the scenes of the movie making side a bit. But Taylor made me feel seen although I do not suffer with addiction it was nice to se someone not let chronic pain stop them.
