I received this as an ARC!
I love that the author is creating stories for WLW that aren’t told as often. This attracted me to this author in the first place! The first installment in this stand alone series was stellar. I didn’t know how much I needed to see these characters.
On that note, I loved the chemistry created between Lillian and Sloan. Their history was vital to the development and returning to the past (while this can be a tired style of storytelling) was absolutely necessary to capture the fallout in their relationship.
While they have both been hurt by their late parental figures there’s a hole that they each fill for each other on their journey to love. Also the smut was fucking fantastic. I was so in for the piercing scenes and all around tension between them.
While I really enjoyed the story there were some small spelling and punctuation errors that took me out just a little. We also got a lot of explanations of everyday outfits that weren’t very necessary. I also wish that we got to spend more time with them together, but that’s just because I enjoyed their interactions. I could have spent another 30 pages of their back and forth, flirty conversations and had the time of my life.
Overall a high 3.95 stars!!

Id give this 4.1 stars. It evoked emotions in me (anger/frustration) that i didn’t know was possible. It gave me sapphic clueless vibes, but also not, like idk how to explain it. Also there was a lot of hiding their feeling which was where my frustration came in, but it all worked out in the end

I know that stepsisters trope is a thing, but I never got the grasp of it, I always find it really weird. Well, until I read this one. I mean, it is still weird for me but this book has opened me to a possibility of reading another one from this trope.
I have a love-hate relationship with miscommunication trope as it frustrates me to the core, but I get it with this one. I totally understood why after all those years of pining and longing, they cannot communicate well. It was too complicated for them to act on it. And those years of pining, wanting, and longing was what led them to this, it was those years that made it extra spicy.
I love this book so much. I loved this one more than Don't Stop Me. And that is big especially from someone who loves age gap trope and is weirded about stepsisters/miscommunication trope.
I just can't get myself be over with the obsession Lillian and Sloan has for each other, its embedded in my mind making me want more from them. That last chapter before the epilogue, I can't get it off my head. And don't make me start talking about the epilogue.
Will I recommend this? Definitely but please do read the warning first. I think this one is slightly less darker than the first book on this series but still its dark and please do read the warning and read at your own risk.
