Such a fast read! Only a little frustrating to read with all the freakin stubbornness. Witty banter. Funny characters with big ole hearts.

I want to preface by saying that I read two other books by Abby Jimenez (Yours Truly and Just for the Summer) and really liked them. I wanted to give her older works a try and was severely disappointed with this one.

I  got about 30% of the way through (Chapter 14/15) before deciding to call it quits. Maybe the book gets better down the line. However, I was not impressed with what I saw from the first third of the book and did not intend to stick around for this book to make some miraculous comeback.

There are so many things that made me uncomfortable quite early on.

First off, I was not a fan of the way Josh glorified Kirsten’s “chill girlfriend” personality while putting down other women who were different in any way. Josh loves how Kirsten is a low-effort woman,  drinks beers and eats cheeseburgers and makes crude jokes - she’s one of those girls who can “hang with the guys”. My problem here is Josh hypes up Kirsten personality by saying she’s not like other women who are “crazy” or “exhausting”. The comparison to other women is completely unnecessary. There is no need to put down other women just because you prefer a certain personality type.

I didn’t like Kirsten at all. The  way Kirsten handles matters when it comes to both Josh and Tyler is so irritating. From the moment she met Josh, she liked him, but hid those feelings because she’s “committed” to Tyler. As Josh and Kirsten hang out more, she finds herself liking him more than she originally expected. She was constantly checking him out when he was shirtless in her garage, building those stairs. She confided in him when someone tried to break into her house. She even declined Tyler’s calls repeatedly because it would’ve cut into her private time with Josh. WTF!! This is micro-cheating, plain and simple. It was obvious that she needed to end things with Tyler. Instead, she just keeps delaying the inevitable and decides to deal with things whenever Tyler came home.

It is MESSED UP that the minute she heard that Tyler was reenlisting, she turned around and immediately hooked up with Josh (Literally SECONDS after hearing Tyler is reenlisting). She already knew that Josh wants to have at least 5 biological kids, which is something she can’t give him with her infertility issues. She even said to Sloane just a couple hours before she got the voicemail from Tyler that Josh and her could never be long term because of the fertility situation. She knew it’s wrong to lead him on if she couldn’t see this working long term but slept with him anyway 🙄. I know she is going through a tough time and she probably has a traumatic backstory that explains why she acts like this, but it’s so infuriating to watch her lead both of them on, with no remorse for how her actions will affect them both. I’m out.

I looked up spoilers for the rest of the book and I am glad I quit when I did. Maybe it gets better as the story progresses, but I’m not willing to wait it out.
