Reading this wasn't a pleasurable experience, but it was an important one, and one I would highly encourage people to explore for themselves.

James Baldwin can write, and I love any book that uses honest language. With that said, I hated the end, and I hated the weird interjections of sex, and I hated how uneven it felt. Large swathes if it were spent on meaningless moments, while major plot points or places for more development were completely ignored. When it finished, I just kind of felt like WTF.

One of the most human stories I’ve ever read. It’s hard to read at times because of the pain the characters go through but the depth of emotion that Baldwin evokes is worth the read.

My first James Baldwin and I am speechless. What a way to end the summer.

Baldwin hits every time. This is my second of his books and I am a BIG fan of his work now.
