This second book had more plot outside of the main couple going on than the first one, and I liked how it allowed for more character introductions and exploration of the supernatural community of New Orleans. You can definitely tell the author is drawing from her own love of the city, so it's a little "spend a day in New Orleans like a local!" but not in a really overt way. More focus on the vampire community this time around and a mystery to investigate.
Isadora is a little guarded at first in an understandable way, and while Devraj is a bit pushy about making her like him, it is sweet when they eventually get together and he becomes very doting.

CW: kidnapping, trafficking, death of parent, social anxiety

Even though the mystery was serious, this felt light-hearted. I liked Devraj a lot. I found his character nicely developed. I liked Isadora, but I have to say that I'm still puzzled by her insistence on not dating. Maybe it was the waffling reasons for not going to dinner with Devraj. I'm glad she finally sat down and had brunch with him. I liked how they learned things about each other. I think some of Isadora's fear could have been managed by actually talking to Devraj. I was happy that she was willing to talk to him about her moving outside her comfort zone at the end. The mystery wasn't so much of a mystery as it was a planned bust. I liked seeing more of Ruben.

Isadora Savoie is not comfortable around people. She prefers plants and animals. She is happy to remain in the shadow of her sisters but reluctantly gets roped into solving the mystery of missing neighborhood women. She is paired with a flashy, sexy vampire who is also determined to find them before it's too late.

Isadora is an antisocial woman who loves to stay in the background. I could relate with her because of this. Her conduit abilities were very interesting, especially the written aspect part of it. I do wish we had seen more of her abilities throughout the book but she isn’t flashy like her sisters so that makes sense. I did have one major issue with her which is something that I personally don't like to see in romances. She went on dates while dealing with her feelings for Devraj. This is something that I know happens in real life, but it's something that really bothers me. Probably because this is something I would never do.

Devraj Kumar is a Stygon, a legendary vampire warrior, and a former Bollywood star. Devraj was charming, flirty, and a fun character. While these two are the complete opposites they worked. He really pulls Isadora out of her shell. I really liked him. He was a very unique vampire.

I really enjoyed the side characters in this one. I like all the Savoie sisters. I seriously can’t wait for Jules and Ruben’s story because I know it's going to be a good one. Overall this was a great sequel and I can’t wait to read the next book.

Trigger Warnings: bicycle accident; human trafficking; death of parents referenced; forced drug use; Isadora does go on dates with other men after being with Devraj.
