Things are getting deeper between Kyla and her men. While Johnny is still under Daddy K's thumb, the other guys are starting to show their unhappiness within the Crew's ranks. Now it seems that not only does Kyla feel she needs to exact her revenge, but she needs to free the men she is developing feelings for of the chains that bind them to the Crew. But until she can do so, she has to play along. She will fight whoever Daddy K decides even if it means the most prominent male fighter of a rival gang. If she wins, it will secure an alliance between the Crew and the other gang. If she loses... well, she can't lose.

Finding a gym to train for her upcoming fight leads her into a comfortable comradery with the gym owners and an excuse to spend more time with Oscar and Brawler. As she spends more time with them she starts to learn more about their lives. Brawler is no longer happy living in the shadow of her dead siblings. Between her dead Crew member brother and drive-by victim sister, his mother has been unable to pull herself out of her depression. Brawler can't help his mother in the Heights. He needs to get her out to get her help. And Oscar has a drug addict for a mother who is destined to fall further and further down the drain if she remains in the Heights. Both men have mothers who will not survive if they remain in the Heights. Kyla has to get them out and get them free when she achieves her goal.

It also seems that Kyla is starting to view Magnum as much more than the protector of her when Johnny is not around. His heated looks are starting to become more and more obvious to her and she can't help feeling much the same for her favorite bodyguard. But Magnum has a loyalty to Johnny that the other two men don't have. Magnum and Johnny are virtually best friends and chasing your best friend's girl is not done without an abundance of guilt accompanying it.

Getting to see Kyla's relationships grow more substantially past the initial attraction is great to see. Oscar is more than the witty clown and Brawler is more than the bleeding heart love muffin. Magnum is touched on but not explored fully and Johnny is starting to be tamed slowly but surely by the affection of Kyla.

The thing I enjoy most about this series so far is that the twists in the story are not apparent until the very last cliffhanger page in the book. It's got a way of sneaking up on you and shocking you completely. But there are hints of these soul-crushing situations occurring but unless you know what's coming you can't guess what's to happen. I love stories you can think back on situations and have an "ahha! So that's what that actually meant!" sentiment.

I am really enjoying the Heights Crew series and am anxious to see where Kyla and her Heights Boys' stories go.

Packed with Punch...!

This second book in the Uppercut Princess series doesn’t pull any punches as FMC Kyla finds herself drawn deeper into relationships and life in The Heights.
Dark, gritty and utterly engrossing. I devoured this and can’t wait for more.
dark emotional medium-paced

It took me ages to read this one, it almost got me into a reading slump

Book two is centering around Kyla and her relationships between Johnny, brawler, Oscar and Magnum.

Showing how much she genuinely feels for Johnny, despite the issue of him being Daddy ks son and having the big secrets from him. She doesn't know how that will pan out in the end.

In contrast brawler and Oscar now know her secret and stand by her. She's determined to get them all out of the Crew and safe together.

The relationship with Magnum is in the air. We're not sure how it's going yo go. There's something but it might be a really good friend or something stronger...

The cliffhanger is a doozy, leaving us not knowing if Magnum is safe. If Oscar was OK on his motorbike, and what's going to happen to kyla now......

None of my opinions on any of the characters has changed. I honestly don't like any of them for various reasons that I detailed in my review of the first book. However, I rated the first book slightly higher due to, not necessarily enjoying, but being entertained by the plot. However, this book honestly did nothing for me. I found it to be overwhelmingly boring and to feel very much like filler. I don't always mind a filler book, but only if I adore the characters. I didn't feel that at all with this book, and honestly, I probably could have just gone onto the third book and not missed any major plot points except for one, as well as the twist at the end. That twist felt cheap to me, though, like it was only thrown in for drama purposes and to give the book a cliffhanger. I am reading this series for a friend who really enjoys it, and she is reading my favorite series in return, so I will be reading the next two books. I'm hoping the series will get better, but right now, it seems like it's just going to get worse. Maybe I'll be proven wrong and end up enjoying one or both of the next two books, but I don't really think I will. I would also like to mention in this review that not all of my criticisms, particularly about the plot, are entirely the book's fault. Some of them arise from the fact that this just is not the kind of book I tend to enjoy. However, I do think some of my criticisms are more objective, such as my issues with the characters.

Arm Candy Warrior Review
Rating: 5 Stars
Quote I love: “If you think for one second I would risk you, you don’t understand me at all.”
.
The action continues on in the second book of The Heights Crew series.
.
I flew through the first book and I flew through this book.
.
In this book the romance between Kyla and her 4 guys grows a bit more and we get some steam. I’m actually loving the slow burn kind of romance with a fast past storyline. It’s different from what I’ve read before and I like it.
.
This book was amazing and I cannot wait to read more of this action packed, adrenaline pumping, romance series.

Love love loved this series!

Reveiw: 5/stars & 4/spice
Book 2 picks right up where one left off, fleeing the scene of an underground fight and shootout. Kayla is only getting in deeper and deeper with the Heights Crew, and she is slowly losing sight of the reason she is there. She keeps adding guys to her harem (Brawler, Oscar, Johnny, and maybe Magnum), not that it is bad but they are the same guys she is going to betray, all but Brawler. Which now knows her secret and has her back, this is not going to play out well. Johnny keeps getting more possessive, and she is now living with the guy and her target “Daddy K”. Even if the guys seem hot, to me it's Kayla that rocks the bada$$ in this series.

I love the concept. However, I feel this is one of those books that has a bit too much filler and could be a lot shorter with the same plot.
