Beautiful. Amazing simple practical ways children (and adults) can show kindness to others and themselves. Perfect words to express how being kind makes us feel.
Love this book.
Recommend for all children and families!

I thought this was a perfect book about not only being kind to yourself and others, but also treating the Earth with kindness too. The pictures are great and the text is short enough that this would be a really great fit for story time :)

A lovely bilingual book in Dine and English. Beautiful illustrations, and a clear message of the importance of kindness.

Kindness is such a wonderful subject. What I liked about this book, besides the pictures, was that included in kindness to others, there was kindness to yourself, and kindness that the earth provides. That particular page sparked conversation with my seven year old when he wondered about "How the earth is kind to us?" It was a great point to make to him that the earth does indeed do us a great kindness in providing for us.

The pictures were great to look at as well. It is such an oddly specific thing, but I really loved the flowers... The illustrations of the family showed kindness in action.

It's a nice way to show children to be nice with their friends and family, but also to be kind to themselves, from the perspective of the First Nations. We need more books like that to bring us all together and help to the reconciliation.

This book is written in English and in Diné (Navajos, who are a Native American people of the Southwestern United States). Both the author and the illustrator are part First Nations, living in Victoria, British Columbia.

I recieved an advanced copy from Netgalley and Orca Books.

This was an absolute pleasure to read-- wonderful illustrations of diverse friends and family illustrating universal kindnesses-- extra-long walks for the dog, helping our elders, being with our families. Perfect for story times toddler and up, a great way to start conversations about ways we can be kind to our loved ones. Orca continues to publish beautiful books I'm proud to suggest to patrons.

This book centers around the conversation of raising kind children – the book discusses all of the different ways a child can be kind. The book is written from an indigenous perspective (Diné, specifically) and includes numerous examples of traditional knowledge in the illustrations. The bilingual version of the book (there is also a French version and an English-only version) is a thrilling example of indigenous language revitalization projects and children's’ books merging. Being kind has several meanings.

Diné bilingual books are the future! I think that indigenous language books are going to really start growing and entering the market more frequently, and this is just one example. I was truly honored to have found this book – and hope that more like it fill the shelves soon! I think it has great representation for Diné children and communities. The Diné bilingual edition of this book should be the only one on shelves (I’m not sure why there is an English-only version out there).
