I would still like to read the rest of this sometime, but at this moment it was honestly too real-life-scary for me to sit with. I want to see what Quill will do next, but damn I need to be in the right frame of mind to do that.

So far, five stars. It's an incredible story with much to recommend it. I enjoyed the writing style and the characters are immediately compelling. And the subject is so damn harrowing, all the more so for being reality... 5,000 missing and murdered indigenous women a year. Yet the perpetual threat of violence is so expected, it's ingrained. Haunting.

Here on the rez, shit happened, and you just kept going.

This book was really well written. The author clearly knows the subject matter well and gets to the emotional heart of the story in a direct and impactful way. All of the characters are well written. The institutional barriers to justice were well explained. A great book to understand the structural barriers to justice and how they effect a community and the people that live there.
