This was a book club pick, so it was a new to me author.
The synopsis was pretty intriguing; a Native woman hears a scream while out running, then is determined to find the missing woman. It’s pretty heavy, and goes into the realities that Native women deal with every day. And while I found it interesting and we all should know more about it, it felt like a PSA and almost too educational at times.
Quill is our main character (the one that heard the scream) and frankly, she made me want to scream. Most of the book is talking about the dangers that Native women deal with daily, and yet she brings her children with her into dangerous situations, doesn’t tell the police about evidence, and lies to her husband about her safety. She was infuriating.
I thought the plot was interesting and I was hooked on the mystery and discovering the ‘bad guy,’ but I definitely struggled with this one.
