Quill, a young Native American woman from the Red Pine reservation in Minnesota, is deep in training for the Boston Marathon when she hears a piercing scream. When she discovers that yet another Native woman has vanished, Quill takes it upon herself to uncover the truth, embarking on a dangerous pursuit to find out who is behind the missing women.

This novel is deeply moving. A heart-wrenching portrayal of the dangers Native American women face every day. While Quill’s impulsive decisions sometimes frustrated me,I understood  her urgency, especially given the incompetence
of law enforcement. The novel shines in its portrayal of female friendships—the unwavering support, resilience, and solidarity among the women is truly powerful. I also appreciated Quill’s husband, who remained as patient as one can be in a situation like this and always had his wife’s back. .

Overall the story was fast-paced and gripping. It kept me on the edge while bringing vital awareness to the real-life crisis of missing and exploited Indigenous women and girls.

I highly recommend the audiobook, narrated by Erin Tripp, whose performance only added to the story.

Marcie Rendon has become a go-to author for me when I want a good thriller. This novel did not surprise me with the whodunnit, but it did keep me guessing until the end whether or not Quill would figure it out without another bad thing happening. Love all the characters and the glimpse into life on a reservation, and absolutely applaud her efforts to bring more awareness to the issue of missing and murdered Indigenous women. Will always recommend this author.

Such a good book! Highly recommend, this story had you at every angle asking what more can happen on this reservation. It tore at your heart strings, because unfortunately these missing women are not just in fictional books. This is about perseverance and ambition that women have, and saying no more and sitting to watch tragedy happen in their communities and to their people. I really enjoyed this book and wish that it was just pretend 💔

This had an interesting setting and premise, and covered the important issue of missing and murdered Native American and First Nation women. The main character, Quill, was a little infuriating, as her reckless and impetuous behavior made most situations worse than they needed to be. There were no real twists, and no real suspense, but I'll rate it pretty highly due to the integration of Ojibwe phrases and lifestyle.

Also, I think the cover is very striking -- one of the best I've seen this year.

I received a complimentary copy of the novel from the publisher and NetGalley, and my review is being left freely.
