Marcie Rendon did a tremendous job of weaving a story that is all too well the reality of some. There were times I couldn't put the book down because I needed to know what Quill was going to do next. There were times I had to put it down because of how close certain scenes hit close to home. Quill and Crow's relationship/family life was one of two of my favorite aspects in the book. It was amazing to read and visualize a kind and healthy relationship like theirs which is something I didn't grow up seeing anywhere. The other aspect was Quills friendship with Gaylyn and Punk made me smile. Their antics and teasing. It made you feel part of something. Sadly, the latter's home life and romantic life is the normal I was used to.
Where They Last Saw Her isn't just about one person, it's about a community. The good, the bad, the struggle, the hope.
Whether or not you are Indigenous, this book makes you think, it makes you feel, it makes you question.
This may not be the type of review you were expecting, but read the book because it's impactful. I wholeheartedly recommend it.

Quill is out for a run and hears a woman scream. What ensues is scary, dangerous, and highlights how many indigenous women go missing or are killed each year and the lack of police response.

Native American women are disappearing from her community and Quill, who heard and eerie scream while running, can't help but get involved.
This book is so very, very good. The female friendships, the backstory of abuse from white Americans that permeates the history of Native Americans and the relentless desire to stop the cycle of trauma in one's community make this a taught and suspenseful thriller.
But, to me, what really sets this apart is the resolution of the story. With out giving anything away - the ending is profound and hopeful and life affirming.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
