Great thriller focused on MMIWG, anti-Indigenous racism and strong female friendship. Quill is fierce and wildly protective of her family and the women in her community. I could not put this one down! I`ll grab anything Rendon writes.

This book is a gut punch. It’s very good, super compelling but horrifying. Horrifying because it (or something like it) is happening every day. I had only picked up the book because I loved the authors Cash Blackbear series. This is set today and focuses on the experience of one small reservation community outside of Duluth. The depths of the impact of the generational trauma so many indigenous populations have to deal with are so stark. Add the fear and destruction that have happened from horrible people in the working camps and it’s just tough to read. It’s important though because looking away from a fictional story makes it easier to ignore the real stories all around. It’s very well done and I recommend it.

I received a copy from NetGalley and the publisher to review.

This book deals with missing and murdered indigenous women, which is an extremely important topic. I'm glad this book exists and overall think it's pretty well written.

That said, the execution is a little wonky. Theres a lot of repetition of information and the writing is a bit choppy and simplistic. While I like Quill as a character, I truly do not understand some of the decisions she made. (Leaving her half dead friend behind in one instance to deal with something extremely dangerous, for one, similar things) The plot itself was good and well thought out by the author.

Overall, this is definitely a good book.

I, for one, had no idea about the very concerning and very real issue of indigenous women that go missing or get murdered. And I'm glad I came across this book. #MMIW
But I feel that the writing style was not for me. It felt quite dry at parts even though the book overall was entertaining. The pacing was off as well: it was slow for most of the book and then went crazy for the last third or so. And the main character made so many stupid decisions that I wanted to scream at her through the pages. All that said, it was moving and I recommend it.

A topic that people need to be aware of. Another example how women are abused and it’s swept under the table. It’s gross and sad we live among people who can do this sort of thing.

This book gave me such anxiety. It was such a sad peek into the terrible history and current issues that indigenous women face. I really struggled to read about Quill putting herself in danger again and again, but understand that she has a perspective of seeing women go missing and being killed again and again, and the police basically doing nothing to help. A stressful book but so informative in a great format.
