Set in Shanghai (such a great backdrop for the story), Lulu gets the proposal dreams are made of, only it’s not a dream for her because she isn’t in love. She says “yes” because she’s supposed to…He comes from a prominent family, and money is security.

She tells her best friends her true feelings, but they need money, too, for each of their very different dreams. The determine that the wedding is the answer to all their problems. Well, the monetary gifts a wedding brings; that’s what they are after, and they devise a layered plan to obtain it. The heist is on.

Short chapters - yes! A unique plot that reminded me of Oceans 11 (probably the heist aspect). A fun, not too serious, vibe. A dash of romance. There’s good character development, too, and I really enjoyed each of them. Overall, it’s a fun book with great heart, and I never knew what to expect in the best of ways.

I received a gifted copy.

A fun read. I know most people say that this gives Crazy Rich Asians vibes, but for me, it felt like Much Ado About Nothing.

I just finished Women of Good Fortune by Sophie Wan and here are my thoughts.

Lulu doesn’t want to get married but when the most eligible bachelor proposes… It's the answer to your family's money problems. Money makes the world go round and that is all that matters right?
She doesn’t love him and the only people she can tell are her 2 best friends.

Jane and Rina are the people she trusts and when a crazy idea comes to Jane, they could all be free… The amount of money Lulu’s money will bring in gifts is enough to fix all three women's problems. They plan a heist but things will not be easy for any of them.

The idea of an all woman heist? SOLD! It didn’t disappoint either. I could really connect with Rina and I could respect Jane after getting to know her. All three women have something special and the fact they have to work 5 times harder than a man to get the basics of rights is sad and infuriating. You can see why they want to do what they do.

I loved all the heist preparation. I was fully invested in the ins and outs of what they would have to do to get their payday! The book was entertaining as all hell and I actually chuckled a few times during the book. It was beautifully written and so much fun. The friendship between the women was probably my favorite part of the whole book. All so different but all fiercely loyal to each other.

Definitely one of my favorites of the year!

4.5 stars thank you to @netgalley and @harlequinbooks for my gifted copy!

This was so surprising!! I gave this book 5 stars for just being different. All of the characters have unique struggles and the story itself was interesting.

Set in Shanghai, working class Lulu is preparing to marry the very wealthy Harv in an extravagant, high-society wedding where her future mother-in-law is planning every move. Bridesmaid and roommate Rina is an example of a "sheng nu" - a successful, unmarried woman over the age of twenty-seven. China's so-called "leftover woman". Rina has no problem being unmarried, yet her goal is to fund freezing her eggs as she focuses on her career. Lulu's other bridesmaid Jane is married in what was more of a business arrangement. Insecure about her looks and believing no one would have married her otherwise, Jane wishes she had the means to divorce her husband and get plastic surgery. And while it appears Lulu, who is 27, now has everything she'd ever want, she is not in love and wants other things in life including adventure. The three friends put their heads together and decide to undertake a major heist to steal Lulu's red wedding envelopes, which would surely give them enough money to enable each of them to fulfill their goals. But what happens when each woman starts to rethink what they truly want in life?

Women of Good Fortune by Sophie Wan was a fun book that ended up being more than a story about a caper. As we got to know each of the women, it was good to see them evolve and discover what having good fortune truly means. It never gets too heavy. You'll enjoy the creativity of the heist.

Couldn't help thinking about Ocean's Eleven, a favorite movie.

Rated 3.75 stars.
