As a light romance it was a fun read. I liked the overall story and the pretty nature descriptions. But it felt a bit simple and surface level to me, until the very end. And for a romance novel, I expected more of the romance. I also wanted more from the romance. More tension before they got together, and more scenes with them after they got together. I almost felt like Eva spent more time with Fergal than she did Daniel (I liked Fergal but c’mon). I felt it spent far too much time in the modern day timeline and not enough in the past, which I thought going in would be the main focus. I was a bit bored whenever she was in present day (but that could be because I don’t like contemporary). I found it a bit unbelievable at times too, like how easily Eva, Daniel and Fergal just accepted the whole time travel thing. They seemed way too casual about it. I felt like the romance moved a bit quickly. It didn’t feel quick reading it, but for the characters they fell in love before really getting to know each other. I’m not a fan of instalove, it feels so juvenile to me, something I’d expect from YA not adult. Also, Idk why this was titled ‘the rose garden’, because the actual rose garden in the book is hardly mentioned and not important to the plot at all. But now I’m just being nit picky..

I feel like this review is very negative but I did overall enjoy it, I just wanted more from it.

I think I expected sort of a slow-burn romance because of the time-travel aspect, but that's really not what this is. The prose was nice, and I liked how Eva's grief for Katrina was addressed, but I felt like Eva fell in love way too quickly, and I kind of lost interest.
