Um, the animals are the same size as humans? And a Toad has hair? I'm confused. This is still a good book, I'm just used to faster paced books I think so it took a bit of effort to get into it. And the logic makes no sense, but it's still fun.

This book was cozy and made me smile a lot. All the characters were likable. At first I was expecting Rat teaching Mole how to boat ride, I wasn't expecting a chaotic adventure with Toad! This book resembles part Animal Crossing and GTA. :,)

So funny that I never once was spoiled on the fact that while Mole and Rat are having fun boat ride adventures that come with some self-discovery, Toad is out here committing obsessive grand theft auto and breaking out of prison and learns NOTHING.
Moderate: Fatphobia
G-slur is used a number of times in period-typical nonchalance, though the character described isn't necessarily portrayed negatively.

good nature writing, a bit slow at times, wasnt fully engaged in the narrative at times.
The first word that comes to mind when I think about this book is delightful. Then funny. Then comforting. Then my thoughts devolve into incoherent babble about which scenes I loved the most, and how much it bugged me every time Toad messed with his hair (since when do toads have hair???), and how much I love the Christmas song the mice sing, and how much I felt for Rat when he's captured by wanderlust. Basically, I love this book. Toad is the worst, Mole is my favorite, and Rat and Badger are pretty great, too.
