This story is a charming one written in 1908. The characters are quite humorous, especially the Toad, and you never know what is going to happen next. The ending had me on my toes, and I was very surprised at the turn of personalities among the characters. Recommend for someone who loves simple pleasures!

We just finished this as a family, and I can't believe I've missed it all these years. What a wonderful read aloud! It's musical - we reread many sentences over again and played with the words. I know I'm a couple centuries late to the fanclub, but I'm adding this to the top of my favorite books to recommend for family read alouds. We want to start from the beginning and read it all over again!
