Wooo, I think I saw that coming, but then disregarded... but still, HOLY SHIT
And how the hell are we supposed to chose!!!!! I love them both, they're like a ying yang in the best kind of way!

Second reading:
Damn... Reading this again made me love Zayne so much more! But I already chose and It's pretty obvious who's Layla gonna choose... But can I keep Zayne for myself then? Like, please?

I absolutely love this series so far! Jennifer Armentrout is a great writer. There are no lulls in the pace as Layla hunts down demons, navigates the school social scene and attempts to deal with her growing feelings for gargoyle Zayne and demon Roth. This is a dark fantasy but plenty of humorous one-liners keep the tone relatively light. The romance (love triangle) is incredibly steamy and suggestive but there is no actual sex. The violence level is pretty high, as many demons, gargoyles and humans are killed. I found the storyline to be intriguing - the blurry line between good (gargolyes) and evil (demons). The action really picks up halfway through, as Layla seeks out the evil that has been taking souls. The surprise twist at the end was a little predictable, but will add a nice spin to the next book in the series. For fans of romance and fantasy, this series is a must.. simply addicting!

I am loving this series so much! The romance, the drama, the characters, the action and surprises, it just keeps getting better and better!

The story carried excellent moments, especially between Layla and my favourite cinnamon roll, Zayne. Their romance carried more sweet moments than the wildness with Roth, though he still played a role and got her into some serious trouble. I really enjoyed watching them all grow and change as demons and danger followed them everywhere. Layla continued to question herself and the damage she believed she could do, and it led to some great character moments. There were fewer demonic showdowns in this book, focusing mainly on Layla and how she struggles to live amongst her friends, but there were definitely terrifying moments and a cliffhanger ending that begs for more.

I definitely recommend this steamy, urban fantasy romance to anyone who loves book banter, character development, and fun!

I can handle physical violence and threat of death so long as the MC is in healthy, loyal relationships with friends, family, and/or love interests, but emotional betrayals are really difficult for me to read. This book was jammed pack of the latter, AKA: my worst nightmare. This didn’t make to book bad, just really stressful as it amped up my anxiety levels unnecessarily
