went into this expecting it to be just as good as a novel love story...and spoiler--it was not. overcoming the cringiness of the main character is impossible, the love interest is bland as mayonnaise, and the only saving grace is the fantastical element of a rent-controlled nyc apartment.

I wanted to love this book, I really did. So many people raved about this story I thought for sure it would be a 5-star read, but unfortunately it didn’t do the thing I wanted it to. The concept of the book was fascinating, I loved the idea of a magic apartment. I thought the love story was sweet, but could have been sweeter. I found myself making guesses about the sweet gestures that could have happened, but just didn’t.
SpoilerCome on, name the restaurant ‘the Lemon’ or ‘Lemon’ or even ‘Lemòn’.

Also, maybe it’s me, because I listened to it in one sitting, but it felt very repetitive. The phrases “pop rocks in my stomach” and “melting into the pavement like ice cream” came up more than 2 times each. Which, they are great phrases but the story could have benefited from something different too.

Overall, sweet, surprisingly sad, quick read.

I have to admit it, I was a bit confused at the beginning but when i understood the magic of the apartment- i too was yearning for Lemon to open those doors and see Iwan.
Such a well written book, that explores grief, love and choosing happiness.
