To say I loved this is probably an understatement. I was grinning and laughing and cheering throughout the entire book! I knew I would love it because I have always had an obsession with Disney's The Little Mermaid, I would watch it on repeat practically everyday from ages 3-7, but I did not expect to absolutely adore this novel. So perhaps I am biased but I did genuinely love everything about this retelling where Ariel was part of a hugely popular girl pop group with her sisters and decides to go undercover with a small indie rock group of quirky characters as they tour the country. It was so fun and inspiring to see Ariel discover what she wanted in life and how she was brave enough to leave everything she knew behind. Her connection with Eric was immediate and while normally I don't really like the insta-love trope, this one was done very well and I was routing for the couple from the very beginning. The characters all felt very real and very different to me and I don't think I have felt such a connection with so many characters (namely the sisters) in a single book before. I loved Ariel's optimism and kindness and how quick she is to solve any arising problem. I was a little annoyed at some minor inconsistencies in the book but the overall story more than made up for those annoyances.
Moderate: Cursing, Death of parent, Emotional abuse, Gaslighting, and Toxic relationship
Minor: Panic attacks/disorders, Alcohol, and Injury/Injury detail
