Zeus is the villain of “Hera” by Jennifer Saint, but our titular character isn’t necessarily the hero. “Hera” is a mythological retelling of the life of the queen of the gods, Hera. There’s a focus on Hera’s relationship to Zeus, monsters, and mortals, and I really enjoyed her character arc in relation to all three. I loved learning more about the myths, particularly the birth of Typhon, though of course creative liberties are taken. I think you’ll find Hera to be an awe-inspiring yet flawed character. Of all the many portrayals of Hera, I like Saint’s the best!

There was a lot that was skimmed over and a lot of brooding. It has many nods to myths but doesn't delve deep

Hera- Jennifer Saint- 3.75⭐️ Retelling of Old tales and an ending for a metamorphosis of the Queen goddess. I was really into it and then it kind of stalled for me.

Saint's writing just isn't for me. I'm not excited to pick this up and when I do, I'm not engaged.

I almost didn’t finish this, because for most of the book, Hera wasn't sympathetic enough to be a hero/protagonist or villainous enough to be an anti-hero. By the end of the book I realized the ambiguity was part of the point. And the last section of the book was excellent, so even though I found the first 80% a little frustrating, I still overall liked it
