It was a very decent book. Didn't touch my soul that much, but it talked about important issues in an interesting format, that made it feel like it wasn't a non fiction book

You know what goes well with cleaning the house and making lunch for the kids between their distance learning lessons? AUDIO BOOKS! Today I listened to the memoir In the Dream House. This is the 2nd book that I've read by Carmen Maria Machado. A couple of months ago, I read her short story collection [b:Her Body and Other Parties|33375622|Her Body and Other Parties|Carmen Maria Machado|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1485266434l/33375622._SX50_.jpg|54116423], which I enjoyed.

This memoir focuses on the author's personal experience as the victim of abuse in her same-sex relationship. The book is comprised of a series of lyrical vignettes that focus on various incidences or themes. Machado also weaves in a number of facts she picked up when researching abuse in lesbian relationships. She shares that there isn't very much published on the subject but she hopes that this book will help others who have gone through similar experiences not feel so alone.

The writing was lovely and melancholy and I can definitely sense that this was therapeutic for her to write. I highly recommend this one.

Some of the best writing I’ve read all year.

Wow, wow and wow. It's been a while since a book floored me quite like this one. The writing is exquisite, the form original and experimental and the subject matter so important. This book swept me in and put me in a suspended state long after I read the final page. A really important read.

While I appreciate the presence of queer writers and the power of queer voice representation especially as a emotional violence survivor and gay woman myself, I really was not a fan of her writing style and the constant change between first person and second person and third person narration. It was hard to follow. The repetitive tone left me constantly wondering, “Where is this going?”

I’m sure to some it reads artistic and poetic, but I just found it irritating.
