Sentinel is the finale of the Covenant series and what a finale it was. Even though not everything made perfectly sense, it was great and there will be some character that I’ll miss – and some that I won’t.

After the devasting battle against Ares, Alex and her fellows are preparing for the final battle against the god. It takes them some time to realize it that they need the help from other parties for this – the help of the titans. Those were literally dei ex machina, but okay. This creates some really weird moments; for example, they have to go to Las Vegas to party in the middle of the war. Compared to the last books though, there were more references to the normal human world which I liked. Alex was also so amazing and strong here; I didn’t expect her to just
shoot Lucian
. I appreciate as well that she wants the status quo to change. She had this weird side plot though where she’s
not sure if she’s pregnant or not? I was so relieved that she wasn’t to be honest

I don’t know what to think about the ending though since the happy part of it felt so forced:
Firstly, it was so obvious that Olivia, one of the very few female characters, would die. Secondly, I didn’t expect that Zeus killed Alex, but it was so clear that she wasn’t really dead. I honestly don’t like this? It would’ve been way more impactful if she had to die for saving the world, but this is probably just me. Instead, she turns into a half-god because of some random potions that causes her and Aiden to live half a year in the underworld and half a year in the real world, oh well

Sadly, Armentrout still barely writes any compelling female characters. The only one here is Alex and she’s grown to me over the course of the story and especially in this last book. This is because her emotions are so well described. Furthermore, I liked the modern depiction of the gods. I still like Aiden quite a lot but his dynamic with Seth was so annoying. Aiden was so uncomfortably jealous, but he later at least realizes that his behaviour is wrong. I still hate Seth and now that I’ve read From Blood to Ash (bad decision), I noticed that Hawke is so similar to him? I was so annoyed by the fact that he was back, but Alex finally beat him up. I was also surprised that he apologized to her. In comparison, Perses was even more annoying than Seth the whole time.

Covenant was the first series by Armentrout that I’ve read, and I think it was a good starting point for her work. It has much action, romance, and is fun to read but not much more. One day, I’ll check out some of her other series but from what I’ve read so far is that she often writes love interests that are like Seth whom I despise so much, so let’s see if I’ll find anything else from her that I’ll like.
